Highest Gondola Ride in the World.
The love of mountains beckons you to reach the top among the
clouds. A ride in the cable car to view the world from the
heights enhances the joy.
Kashmir in the northern part of India is a paradise on the earth
for its beautiful scenic locations. The inflow of domestic and
foreign tourists to Kashmir was around 0.7 million every year till
the late eighties. The tourist arrival had reduced during the
last decade of 20th century due to militancy in the Kashmir
valley. However, with general improvements during the last 5
years, the valley is again witnessing tourist’s rush to enjoy
the beauty of mountains, lakes, meadows and cool weather during
the summers.

Gulmarg located at 8000 feet above sea level is one of the most
frequented destinations of visitors to Kashmir, both during the
summers and in winters. Gulmarg has very good slopes for skiing.
The installation of gondola cable car has enabled the skiers to
ski down the high slopes. It is becoming one of the new
destinations for skiers from across the world.
The cable car has two sections of 2.5 kms each. The ride in the
first section takes you from 8000 feet to 10500 feet at Kongdori.
All visitors to Gulmarg use the cable car and the rush on
weekends leads to waiting in queue for hours. The tourist enjoys
the beautiful meadow at Kongdori and takes the horse ride or
trek to Khilanmarg in summers. The second section of the cable
car rises to 13500 feet to Apharwat atop the mountain. The
slopes from Apharwat down to Kongdori are laden with thick snow
in winters for skiing. More facilities in the form of chairlifts
are also proposed to be installed and the skiers can ski down
from different slopes.
Gulmarg has hotels for comfortable stay and many more are under
construction to take care of expected arrivals during the coming
years. It is easily approachable from Srinagar, 56 kms away on a
